Day 2 of Sparkles: Shine On You Crazy Diamond

Woke up late, but got on the bus and now im exhausted at work

i'm leaving in a few minutes or so

i need to do so much today even if im not at work:

mail my financial award statement

get lunch

take bus to museum hill

find my way to the lab of anthropology library

photocopy that catalogue and other materials

take bus back to downtown

take bus home

call/text nica and meet with her mom about the records

get home and SLEEP.

i went to the lab of anthropology to look at the catalogue i requested

it's pretty helpful i guess, i havent really read the heart of it yet

read a manuscript on "inuit artists" but they really meant carvers

i fell asleep reading about the status of women in inuit society

but i perked up because there was only one librarian and it was such an old school type deal where i ahd to tell her the call number and she brought out the books for me and i saw the rolling bookshelves

she was nice, her name is allison and she's canadian so she was giving me some good advice to look at such and such museum or gallery for resources on cape dorset/baker lake prints :)

i officially have a shelf for myself at the lab of anthropology--just a bit of taste of the thesis life

only problem is that the library's hours are the same as my work ones so i'll have to keep asking for half days to do research :(

i still need to go to IAIA's library too since they have more catalogues on pitseolak ashoona and napachie pootoogook and maybe one thing on annie pootoogook.

hm.

of course when i got there there was a crazy man on the bus with a stained comforter and bike. and bright red hair with a 10-gallon cowboy hat. seriously, the bus community gets more and more interesting.

this weekend is the colorful international folk art market, so i saw all the set up and pretty decorations. just a taste of what indian market will be like. must visit again and see if anything is worth buying.

in general i need to be going to more museums and galleries. i feel like i started off so strong--there seems to be so much more i need to see in santa fe and in new mexico in general. road trips for everyone! lol
